Sarah Was Fooled/aka Outrageously Awesome Orange-ness

Sarah was starting to think my 30's had brought on a liking of a more muted color palette...little did she know I was holding THESE lovely pictures for a special post all on their own...since her comment on the design inspiration post, I just couldn't hold out! Here are some beautiful ORANGE rooms!




I chose this one because of the great portrait of the two babies above the bed!

The Pumpkins

Here's the pumpkins we carved when Julie's peeps were here. Julie didn't carve one, she was helping her mom. Mine is the guy with the big nose. New song/video to the right in honor of Halloween! Hocus Pocus and Bette Midler rock! ;)

YEAH ORANGE!!

I'm reviewing how to make the color orange with Kindergarten and First grade this week and the kindergartners get so excited about it. We went over red + yellow = orange and when I made the first orange....they all cheered, "YEAH ORANGE!" I feel that way exactly. There just isn't a happier color really. To get excited over something relatively simple, is gigantic really. When you lose the ability to see beauty in the small things and can't get excited about the "small" stuff anymore, you've lost a lot in my opinion. SO, here's to ORANGE! You kick ass orange and if I could say that to the kindergartners I would have said, "You're right! Yeah orange, it kicks ass!"

While going over how to make the color orange, I busted out with my nifty little "science" experiment and showed the kids a 2 liter bottle with water then dropped yellow food coloring in followed by red. As soon as the red hits the yellow, you can see the colors mixing and spreading out, turning into orange. It's so much fun because the kits go NUTS and start cheering and saying "Shake it, Shake it!" I shake the water up and Shazaam! we have orange. It's cool stuff really. After this a kindergartner told me I was cool because I can make stuff. Thanks dude! I like making stuff.

Each table got a small container of yellow and an even smaller container of red and were able to mix up their own orange. We then painted pumpkins. I'll post some pictures of those later.

The photo was originally one I had taken of an ocean sunset (doesn't look that way huh?!) and then did some crazy thingamabobs (do you know that blogger didn't count that as a misspelled word-but it tells me kindergartner is wrong everytime?!) in Photoshop.

More admittance to being type A!

We just completed a lot of organizing and rearranging of the orange laundry room. While Julie finished up the trim work, I organized and cleaned out the drawer system in there. This really shows some serious type A personality going on, I know! What you don't see is inside the drawer labeled "Nails and Screws" (no dirty jokes) there are little plastic containers separating everything. Don't knock it till you try it now...when you make things more organized you spend way less time searching for things and more time doing things you enjoy...like organizing more stuff! It's just something you have to make time for. To me, it's totally worth it. I moved this painting from the office into the laundry room to cover up the nasty grey fuse box. Still have a few things left to do in here, but I think this corner is pretty much finished.

Lovely Wrinkles

Here is a finished corner in the craft room...with wrinkled curtains that I need to take care of, but I thought I'd share anyway. I like how this little corner turned out and think the colors work really well together.



Here is a tea-towel that I bought from Skinny Laminx. I've been wanting to share a photo of this for a really long time, but just haven't gotten around to it. It also has wrinkles, but I didn't want to take the time to iron them out! I LOVE this so much that I can't bear to use it because I don't want to ever have to wash it and see its lovely, vivid redness fade away. I believe its permanent home will be here in the craft room, but probably---eventually in a frame of some sort. I also hope Sarah's looks great in her new blue and red themed kitchen.

Things I Need To Get Done (part one)

The Laundry Room...is now ORANGE! BRIGHT, YUMMY, LICKABLE ORANGE! Hells yeah! The laundry room was perfect to do orange, so that we can partake of its goodness, but close the door so as to not make our friends sick or dizzy when they come over! ;) We're still the party palace after all! heehee!

• I've finished my part of the painting, now Julie will do all of the white trim and touch-ups (too meticulous for me).
  
• You see there's no cabinet doors on the cabinets, that's because I've got to start and finish painting those black (it won't look like Halloween, I promise...and if so...then woooooo...spooky!)
• Move all the storage cabinets, etc...back in and take the white shelf down you see---there will be two cabinets there for more covered-up storage.
• Eventually we are going to re-do the flooring (there's really yucky, NON-MATCHING, blue and white laminate right now)...probably going with tile because eventually---WAY EVENTUALLY where this window is will be a door that goes out onto a deck that leads down to the pool (the pool that isn't there yet, but will be). This is where people will go to and from the pool so the tile will be good to have wet feet on and not the hardwoods. (How ya like that planning?!)
  
• I'm also doing a painting that will be hung over the ugly grey (grey with an "e" looks artsier to me, sorry) breaker box.
  

Orange

A Little Preview

Been spending most of my days painting while here at the house alone while trying to overcome the sad feeling that I keep feeling...hopefully the hormones will straighten themselves out. I think I'm too inside my head right now and I keep thinking...thinking...thinking! While thinking, I shall keep painting. This is a little preview of the craft room without the new desks we're getting from IKEA or anything on the wall yet, because it's not finished--just finished being painted! I've moved on to the next painting project which is the laundry room and that has proven to not be a fun room to paint. I knew it wouldn't be a walk in the park, but jumping behind a washer and dryer to attempt to paint behind them, was quite an interesting feat. The primer is mostly done, then on to the awesome orange! Oh and yes, that's a radical, funkafied orange sofa in an aqua room! I might be scared of a lot of things, but I doubt I'll ever be accused of being afraid of COLOR!

Satisfied

I was inspired by Design*Sponge's post about her kitchen and decided to write a little post about parts of my kitchen. These are my two favorite parts...the other half of the kitchen is not done yet. I still want to paint the kitchen cabinets black (though it scares a lot of people I know...I think they will see my vision once it's finished) and do something amazing with the backsplash and counter-tops.

I have ideas for those! I think the backsplash would look crazy cool if it was a hot pink, because it's a small area and with black cabinets and grapeish--limeish green walls around it-it would look AWESOME...to me! Anyway, back to the parts I'm satisfied with! The orange owl print is from Sugarloop.
I absolutely love her owl prints. I have a light green one in the sunroom, an orange one in the kitchen and there's a yellow one on the way! I am thinking of them as a set, and have to have all of the ones that match colors in my house! :) I've already told her that she seriously needs to do a red one because I will be all over that like white on rice! The other little print is actually a notecard from Blackbird Press.

Love it too! The little owls are precious and she will custom make stuff for you also. The colored pencil arrangement is something I did when I saw one in Pottery Barn that was WAY too expensive.
The other picture shows our Target pub table, a nifty light fixture from (I think Home Depot) and an oil pastel drawing Julie did a'la Georgia O'Keefe. These two sections of the house feel just right!
