Definitely BITTER

I was SOOOOOO bitter and ill today because of having to go into work after I was SURE the snow/sleet would cause some freezing and we'd be staying home. I had dreams in my mind about having a video watching day all snuggled up on the sofa. So when it started raining last night and all the snow and ice had gone away, I was pretty unhappy about it. I knew the kids would be crazy too. I did share some fun stories with the kids today and it seems most of us had fun catching snowflakes on our tongues. I just wish it could have lasted a little longer.

I don't know how much I enjoy going to my job anymore. Sure there are kids that really make a difference and ones that I ADORE, but those that are nice, sweet, polite, funny, kindhearted, etc...are getting more obsolete by the minute whereas the butt-holes seem to be taking over. If this is how it is now, with kids that don't care, parents that don't care and the attitude that learning/school/anything we try to prepare them for doesn't matter at all...what is it going to be like in 5 years, 10 years?! It used to be thought that it's the parents from my generation who are screwing these kids up...well I dare someone to make that statement to me at this point because we have parents WELL into their forties that do just as poor of a job and aren't any better equipped to raise children than the younger ones.

I do however FIRMLY believe that the kids who are in college now and some who have graduated in recent years are some of the laziest bunch of assholes you will ever meet...they are like the kids we teach now---think they know everything, think everything should be handed to them on a silver platter, don't give a crap about listening to anyone or working. Their parents are definitely not my age but much older.

So if this is what it's going to be like, every single generation screwing up and totally ruining their children, we need to do something! If educating the kids isn't working alone because their parents don't give two shits, then why aren't we educating the parents?! If it's a LAW that we pay taxes, if it's a LAW that we take a test to get our Driver's License, if it's a LAW that we have certifications for various jobs...why doesn't someone make a law that makes it where parents have to get "professional learning units" like we do? We spend 8 hours a day with their children...they spend years with their children and they've already royally screwed their children up before they are 5 years old...so it seems as though something needs to change.

When you are older though, I think that no matter what has happened in your life you need to suck it up and stop blaming your parents...because that excuse gets old and you have a right to make your own choices. Go see Dr. Phil and get over it.

Everybody just wants to have fun...well we want to have fun too and it would be GREAT to be able to have fun, enjoy our jobs--while making a difference. If they would just let you have fun with them and try to learn something in the process, life would be so much easier it seems.

Don't come to school acting like you smoked crack rock on the bus ride over and then act like a brat when someone asks you to do something you were supposed to be doing already...I know you're mad that you can't catch anymore snowflakes on your tongue or make a snowman...I'm pretty damn pissed about it too, but I'm still doing what I'm supposed to be doing. Your sorry, lazy butt could be in Africa starving to death and having to go to work to barely make money after sleeping on a dirt floor at night...so shut up and learn how to read, it's your only job.

I'm just sayin'!

On a completely different note...here are two pretty pictures from yesterday---when for a moment, life was simple, pretty and sweet.

You really have it bad today huh gal....Oddly, I was volunteering at JES today for an hour of tutoring/mentoring....When I walked in the door, I got that old feeling, not necessarily a good one. I'm so glad I retired. I don't miss public school at all....I love kids, I love teaching and where I'm working right now, that's exactly what I'm able to do...and it's stress-free. I will be with Suzie-KK aka Kinsley next year in another Christian environment where children are parented, where children are loved and cared for. Kins. and I both love the choice we made...me because I could, her because her priority was her children and family...that's how life should be. Just to put a bug in your ear....RSCA, where Kins. is right now and I'll be going to next year, is expanding to Middle School grades...they are going to have a complete school...I bet they are going to need a really SUPER art teacher and probably a MEDIA SPECIALIST too (Juliebean)...I'm not sure about retirement benefits...Anyway, point is...look ahead and find a new path to take...Girl, you got Teacher of the Year your first year as a teacher at NMES...you have a gift, and you are one of the most unique people I've ever known. You are marketable and public education isn't the only place for you to use your talents....Every year it seems that public school loses more and more of those really good kids. We were counting yesterday, the schools that are now private and are housed and supported by churches...we counted 13 in a 30 mile radius....That number was at 4 or 5 just 6 short years ago....I'm not a bible totin' scripture quotin kind of person, and I'm not selling religion here, just saying that there are some really great situations for caring educators who really love their jobs....unfortunately, you have to take a pay cut to work there..SO..Make some hot chocolate, build a fire (not with the painted wood--you'll die from toxic fumes), love your doggies and get Julie to make you laugh...Life is good, at least most of the time....Get up tomorrow and go at it again and know that I admire you, as do all of this crazy gang of ours, and it supposed to SNOW on Saturday again....love you, :) Lee

Post is sad, but truthful, Lee has good points, and I hope the cupcakes are chocolate! I'm off to do laundry and think about school work!

Sorry you didn't have a very sparkly day. I completely agree with what you said though--it's a sad, sad thing going on with some of these kids and their parents. Kev is all about the kid going to a public school, but I'm having a REAL hard time with that idea. Stay tuned for the winner of that battle! :)
MMMmmm.. Cupcakes. Do you deliver?

Anonymous January 17, 2008 at 10:40 PM

I'll pay you to deliver them to me....hell I'll even pay for Nats.....but it has to be chocolate....L. nighty night girls...blog you tomorrow.

Well, it is hard to stay positive when you are in a negative environment...I am going to go on a limb here-I don't believe it is all parents and all kids. I know you don't either, but I think your envrionment makes a WORLD of difference. I did my student teaching in a school where teachers shared and supported one another and the principal actually came and sat in the rooms and was seen often, the kids loved her but TOTALLY respected her at the same time. That school had such a great vibe from the second you hit the door from the school secretary down to the custodians and kids feed off of that, those were some GOOD kids and they had some shit homes, but they knew they were loved at school and not just by their teacher but by everyone at that school and boy did those kids perform and still do. So maybe you just need to change work environments and see if that helps. :) You are a great teacher and it would be terrible for them to lose you but you know if they keep losing good people MAYBE SOMEONE will look into what is going on. Just my thoughts. Hang in there and remember you can always vent to us!
